Piperazine 10% syrup |
| Composition: Each ml syrup contains: 100 mg piperazine (as citrate) Indications: Piperazine is a safe and very effective anthelmintic, active against Ascaris infections, as well as Oxyuris and Trichonema in horses, nodular worms (Oesophagostonum) in pigs and ruminants, and hookworms in dogs and cats. It has a partial effect on Strongylus vulgaris in horses, Nematodirus and Cooperia spp in ruminants. No effects are found on flukes or tapeworms. In Ascaris infections, piperazine is effective against all stages of the worms. It paralyzes the worms in the intestines, which are then expelled by peristalsis. Migrating larvae are not affected. Therefore a second dose after one week is recommended. In case of lung infections, migrating larvae are however eliminated right from the first dose.
