Alfatrim sol

Composition:
Each ml of solution contains:
16.35 mg trimethoprim,
83.35 mg sulphadiazine
Properties:
Solution for medication of the drinking water. Sulphadiazine is a sulfonamide which is rapidly absorbed to a high degree from the
normal gut. Its spectrum of activity includes Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Its mode of action is based on inhibition of
para-amino benzoic acid (PABA) which is necessary for the synthesis of bacterial folic acid.
Trimethoprim is a member of the di-aminopyrimidine group of substances and also acts by inhibiting the folic acid synthesis, but at a
later stage. The combination of trimethoprim and sulphadiazine is synergistic. This synergism increases the spectrum of activity of the
combination and thus its efficacy.
Alfatrim sol is well tolerated by all target animal species.
Indications:
Infectious diseases caused by both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Such disease in young animals (calves, lambs, piglets)
include infectious enteritis (colibacillosis, salmonellosis) and pneumonia caused by Pasteurella spp.
The treatment of MMA is an indication in adult sows. Indications in poultry include salmonellosis and CRD. Indications in rabbits
include bronchopneumonia (pasteurellosis) and infectious enteritis.
