| Composition: Each ml solution contains 250 mg dihydrostreptomycin (as the sulphate). Properties Dihydrostreptomycin is a member of the aminoglycoside group of antibiotics. It has an antibacterial action against Enterobacteriaceae (e.g. E. coli, Klebsiella spp and Proteus spp), Mycobacteria, Salmonellae, Staphylococci, Leptospira and Vibrio spp. The drug is rapidly absorbed following intramuscular administration, resulting in serum concentrations which remain effective for 12 hours. Indications: Infections caused by organisms sensitive to the action of dihydrostreptomycin in cases of, for example, respiratory tract disease, leptospirosis, septicaemia and endometritis. Dosage and administration: DHS 25% is intended for intramuscular or subcutaneous administration to cattle, sheep and pigs. In general the dosage is 10 mg/kg body weight twice daily for 1 - 3 days. Leptospirosis: a single intramuscular injection of 25 mg/kg body weight. Withdrawal periods: Meat : 5 - 10 days (residues may persist in the kidneys for longer periods) Milk : 48 hours Contra-Indications: Known hypersensitivity to aminoglycosides, definite or suspected neurological abnormalities such as hearing impairment, abnormalities of balance, kidney dysfunction. Side-effects: Nephrotoxicity, ototoxicity, neurotoxicity Warnings: Not known. Conservation: Cool (8-15°C), protected from light. Presentation: 12 vials of 100 ml. |
