Ampicillin 20%

Composition:
Each ml suspension contains:
200 mg ampicillin trihydrate
Action:
Ampicillin is a semi-synthetic penicillin with a broad spectrum bactericidal action against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. The suspension produces sustained blood levels 30-60 minutes after injection. Furthermore ampicillin has many advantages compared to other penicillins: being non-toxic, stable in acidic conditions, and is well resorbed. The spectrum includes Streptococcus, Salmonella, penicillinase negative Staphylococcus, Clostridium, Shigella, Listeria monocytogenes, Corynebacterium, Actinomyces. Relatively sensitive are E. coli, Proteus mirabilis, and E. vulgaris.
Indications:
Enteritis (E. coli, Salmonella, Clostridium), Streptococcus infections like arthritis and meningitis, ear necrosis, urinary infections (nephritis, urethritis, cystitis, etc - ampicillin is particularly suitable for the treatment of these diseases because of its high concentrations in the urine after administration), respiratory diseases (pneumonia, bronchitis, etc), systemic treatment of infections caused by Gram-negative bacteria. Ampicillin is also used for systemic infections caused by Gram-negative bacteria in the udder.
Administration/dosage:
By intramuscular injection:
In general 1 ml per 10 kg b.w. per day for 3-5 days.
Horses, cattle : 3.5 ml per 100 kg b.w. twice daily for 3-5 days.
Calf, foal, sheep : 2 ml per 50 kg b.w. twice daily for 3-5 days.
Pigs : 2 ml per 50 kg b.w. daily for 3-5 days.
Piglet : 0.5 ml per 10 kg b.w. daily for 3-5 days.
Dogs, cats : 0.1 ml per 2 kg b.w. twice daily during minimal 5 days
In case of severe infections these dosages may be doubled.
Contra-Indications:
Hypersensitivity to penicillins.
Advised withdrawal times:
cattle:
meat : 10 days.
milk : 2 days.
pigs:
meat : 14 days
Conservation:
Cool (8-15°C), protected from light.
Presentation:
Per 12 vials of 100 ml.
